Every once in a while a special one of a kind car rolls out of the Ferrari Design Centre, a car that only exists as one example and is designed to the requests of its wealthy owner. Wealthy is the operative word, as the hourly rate at Ferrari for a custom built car is eye watering. This latest creation is called the SP38 and sacrificed a 488 GTB to be made. The goal of the project was to express the beauty and innovation of Ferrari’s road cars while being a high performer on both road and track.
The bodywork is all custom made and is covered in a new three-layer metallic red paint job. The mechanicals remain the same as the donor car with plenty of power available from the twin turbocharged V8. The visual mass of Ferrari SP38 is centered over the rear wheels, giving a overall wedge shape that stretches towards the front. The headlights are inset and were designed to be as slim as possible, with the daytime running lights relocated to the slim bumper lip which is reminiscent of the 308 GTB.
